Uwah! Little did I know that buying this anime DVD, PEACH GIRL would be a diamond in the rough! And I fell in love with it– first episode and all. The story is a classic tale of high school romance with enough twists and turns, blues and bliss, lies and deceptions with mature themes thrown almost seemingly randomly in–discrimination, suicide, rape, premarital sex and teenage pregnancy. An average high school romance anime with mature and hardly cutesy themes.
The enemy is also someone that all people deal with, the so-called best friend that backstabs and destroys. But all characters have layers from enemies to love interests so it’s a riveting anime that even has you rooting for the bad guy/girl.
The story revolves around Momo Adachi, her name means Peach in Japanese so I’m guessing that’s why the anime is entitled “Peach Girl”– also, the flower meaning of peach blossoms is “Slave for love” or “I’m your slave” and love is indeed the be all and end all of this story.
On the outside, Momo Adachi is a darkly tanned girl with bleached hair from her days as member of the swim team but on the inside, she’s very kind-hearted and nice girl with a lot of hopes and dreams. She longs to have white skin not only because people misjudge her as a party girl or a slut because of her looks but also because her love interest since junior high, Kazuya Toujigamori (Touji) once said that he doesn’t like dark-skinned girls. Because of that, Momo stopped swimming and tries her hardest to stay out of the sun because she tans too easily.
Other main characters include Kashiwagi Sae, Momo’s supposed bestfriend who copies everything Momo does and is also the class leader. She is petite with short dark hair and plae white skin, a lot of guys like her because of her beauty but she as not as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.
Kazuya Touji is Momo’s love interest. He’s very reserved but a lot of girls like him because aside from his good looks, he’s very gentlemanly and nice. (Author’s Note: Touji-kun kawaii!!! *glomps*)
Another character is the self-confessed playboy who has his eye on Momo, Okasuya Kairi (Kiley). On the outside, he is this overly genki, female magnet pervert but there’s a lot more to him than what meets the eye. (A/N: AIE!!Okasuya is so hot!!!! *swoons*)
The anime has 25 episodes that almost feels too short. I can’t help but fall in love with this anime despite its inconsistent animation because the story is charming and the characters endearing. Episode reviews and synopsis and character focus on Peach Girl will be coming up in this shrine. So stay tuned and comment please! Ja matta ne!
