The episode picks off after Rukia leaves the group to rejoin her squad in soul society. She’s walking alone in a fairly deserted Rukongai while thinking that it hasn’t changed one bit. Ririn is also walking behind her but she senses an evil aura even before Rukia became aware of the danger.
A gust of wind covers a tall figure whom Rukia realizes to be the female Bounto, Yoshi. It was the same Bounto who beat up Cloud and their team and Rukia is now forced to go up against her without a zanpaktou.
The woman is armed with a talking sword and a fan tipped with knives and she immediately lunges at Rukia who dodges the attack. Rukia somehow managed to get a beat-up katana but she also used her demon magic to fight against the Bounto woman.
But everytime Rukia managed to wound the woman, particularly after using Art of Destruction No. 33, the Bounto woman would absorb the spirit particles of Soul Society and would regenerate time after time no matter how grave or numerous her damages are. Soon, Rukia began lose the force of attacks because of exhaustion.
Rukia got cornered in a shack but with the help of Ririn who managed to divert Yoshi’s attantion with an illusion, Rukia was able to seriously wound the Bounto. But there is a price to pay for all the spiritual energy Rukia has been expending on the battle and soon Yoshi begins to overpower Rukia and toys with her by cutting her while letting her run.
Yoshi holds a girl and a baby hostage if Rukia doesn’t let go of her sword. With her arms dripping blood and her body beaten down, Rukia puts down her sword. Yoshi tries to slip Rukia’s hakama over her shoulder and calls her a cute and a prude before she stabs her sword through Rukia’s leg and begins to slice her up.
Just before the killing blow is given, as Rukia’s body and Yoshi is airborne, a figure masked by the billowing dust emerges.
Byakuya flash steps to catch Rukia and Ichigo and Orihime arrive in time to see Rukia in Byakuya’s arms, unconscious and badly hurt. The Tower of Penitence explodes and Ichigo and the others realize that the attack on Rukia was a diversion to infiltrate the Court of Pure Souls.
Sidenote: I just love how Byakuya came to the rescue! Wai! Kakkoi!!!!! Kawaii!!!! *puts up Byakuya banners* Hmm..I wonder if Byakuya feels something more than “sibling duty and love” towards Rukia…. Ohohohohohoho!!!! What an interesting thought!
